privacy

Two important points

    1. Do not reflect your real name or email address within your SLAVE user name when creating your SLAVE account. Protect your privacy and confidentiality by creating a unique SLAVE user name that does not reflect your real name or email address.

    2. LOG OUT when leaving the SLAVE website if you are using a computer that is accessible by other people. Our website maintains your login status across sessions, so you do not have to log in each time you visit the SLAVE website. Other people can access and use your account if you do not LOG OUT on the navigation menu on the left column.

Your privacy is important to us

Protection of the privacy of all confidential information provided to SLAVE by its members is of the highest priority within our organization. SLAVE will never disclose any personally-identifiable member information to external entities without the express written permission of the individual member. We are integrating state-of-the-art Secure-Socket-Layer (SSL) technology throughout our website to protect the confidentiality of information submitted by our members through our site.

Although SLAVE is not a "covered entity" under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), SLAVE adheres to the privacy and security rules set forth in HIPAA in the interest of fully protecting the privacy and confidentiality of SLAVE member information. Interact with other members of the SLAVE community with absolute confidence that your privacy will not be compromised by our organization.

We require that you provide a valid email address to create your SLAVE account. We also request other information that will facilitate our ability to contact you under circumstances of your choosing. Having contact information for our members empowers our organization, and enhances our ability to leverage our connectedness to more effectively protect the interests of student loan borrowers (e.g., lobbying members of Congress regarding student loan legislation, and persuading judge or jury of the broad base of support for our cause). Your privacy and confidentiality regarding all contact information provided to SLAVE is assured.

As stated above, please do not reflect your real name or email address within your SLAVE user name when creating your account. Also be aware that you should never reveal personally identifiable information in your communications with anyone (including other SLAVE members) that could compromise your position in any current or future legal proceeding. Our recommendation is that you set up an email account that will be anonymous to other members (e.g., an email account at Yahoo! or Hotmail with no personally identifiable information reflected within the email ID). If you decide to post an email address within a discussion board, chat, or other context, use your anonymous email address to ensure your privacy.
