I tested poz for HIV my second year in dental school and was essentially forced out of school in 1991
I thought leaving was doing the right thing.
How wrong I was. Thought I would be dead since I watched 30 of my friends die from HIV. Thought i could just wait out the 5 year limit to collect--if i lived that long, I did. then it was changed to 7 years and i still lived. Pay check to paycheck and in fear. Some months i did not eat because i had to pay for my HIV meds. I missed the opp. to declare bancruptcy and now my loan has been turned over to the US Department of (a-hem) Justice. I was like WHAT????? they have been ruthless in collecting. I am barred from collecting any monies from Medicare. And i am not even a dentist. I am a respiratory therapist and they took my license away to practice that because the hospital bills patients who pay wiht medicare money and ultimately some of my paycheck comes from some of that money,
They garnished 24% of my paycheck. and did other nasty things to me. I am sure you are all aware of how hard they can make things for you.
So now i am paying my loans because i cannot pay for my HIV meds.
What am i supposed to do ?
I am trying to find a lawyer who has even heard of an adversarial hearing and how to do it,
