Can The Goverment Take Ex Spouse Property Away?
Submitted by Dreamharp on Fri, 09/16/2005 - 11:34am.
I am legally separated from my husband. My husband, the wage earner bought
an old farm house and my name is on the title (deed) I do not make payments
on it my ex spouse does. He lives there in the house. I live in an apartment
in another state.
I have defaulted on a student loan. Can the government take the property
away from my ex spouse? (lien)
Can Government take property
Yes they can. They can not force you to sell property but they can put a lien on a residence and if you sell collect
judgements at that time. Get your name off of the Deed, pronto.
Thank you pollyrobin,for posting
Also, Can the government seize bank accounts without a judgement? It
seems like they can almost do anything!
